About
Andrea Geisinger — Captain, Instructor, Steady Hand.
A USCG-licensed captain and lifelong sailor helping Bay Area boat owners build real confidence — through calm, practical instruction aboard their own vessels.

I've spent more than three decades on the water — teaching, cruising, delivering vessels, and captaining privately. Along the way I've watched a lot of new owners try to learn their boats in ways that don't quite work: crowded classrooms, unfamiliar training vessels, or well-meaning friends who teach a little too fast.
What actually works is quieter than that. One boat. One or two students. A patient captain. A plan that fits your vessel and your marina. Repetition until the skill becomes muscle memory. And the willingness to sit at the dock and talk it through when the wind isn't right.
That's the work I do. Whether it's docking practice on a 42-foot powerboat in Sausalito, insurance-required hours on a new-to-you sailboat in Alameda, or a delivery from the Bay up into the Delta — the approach is the same: safety first, always; clear teaching; and a calm presence aboard so that owners walk away trusting themselves.
As a woman captain in a field that hasn't always looked like me, I take particular care with owners and couples who've felt talked-down-to elsewhere. Good instruction doesn't require ego. It requires patience, precision, and respect for the person holding the wheel.
If your boat matters to you — and the people who ride on it matter more — I'd be glad to help.
